Silk Huis is more than a space for rent. It's a hub for story-telling and events alike, a creative workspace you can let your mind run wild in and somewhere to feel at peace with the moment you come through the door - allowing your photographic genius to take shape in our professional studio.

Community Engagement

We would like to engage with the local community by partnering with other sustainable businesses, participating in community events, and supporting local environmental initiatives. Please reach out to us if you would be interested in a collaboration.

Local and Sustainable Food

For our private events and dinners, we prioritize sourcing local, organic, and sustainably produced food and beverages. We try to minimize food waste by planning carefully, donating excess food to local charities, or sharing leftovers with our guests. #sharingiscaring

Sustainable Materials

We choose carefully sustainable and eco-friendly materials for our studio's furnishings and decor. We use non-toxic and natural finishes and make conscious decisions about circularity and vintage pieces.

Energy Efficiency

We have invested in our studio space's energy-efficient lighting, heating, and cooling systems. The building has an A+ energy label, which makes it one of the most efficient within the Amsterdam canals.

Waste Reduction

We encourage using reusable and/or biodegradable products for workshops and events, and we collaborate with vintage stores to rent our tableware as much as possible when we create our own one-of-a-kind events.

Transportation

We encourage the use of public transportation, carpooling, or biking to our studio by providing information on alternative transportation options. Please check more details in the FAQ below.

GENERAL QUESTIONS

Where is Silk Huis located?

You can find Silk Huis at Keizersgracht 633E, 1017 DS Amsterdam. Once inside the building, head up to the 3rd floor

What are the opening hours?

Our opening hours vary, but we try to be flexible to meet all needs. You can see up to date booking hours on our booking page. Or you can always contact us to schedule an appointment that works for you

How is the natural lighting in the studio?

The studio is available over two floors. On the first floor, lighting is mostly on the North and West. On the second floor, lighting is available from the West and East. As we all know, sunny days are an expensive commodity in the Netherlands, but we do provide free professional studio lighting.

Is parking available?

Street parking is available without reservation. Indoor parking is available at the following locations within walking distance:

  • Oneparking Grachtengordel (180 meters)
  • Parkbee Spiegelhof (350 meters)
  • APCOA PARKING Prins & Keizer (400 meters)

How can I check the availability of the Silk Huis?

To check the availability of our studio, you can:

Which days and hours can I book Silk Huis for?

Our opening days and hours vary, but we try to be flexible to meet all needs. As a photographer or videographer, you can see up to date booking hours on our booking page.

For workshops, dinners or other type of events - you can always contact us to schedule an appointment that works for you.

What happens if my booking runs over the scheduled time?

If your booking runs over the scheduled time, you can book an additional 30 minutes to complete your work or more time based on availability. Please let us know if you need more time.

Can I cancel my booking?

All our weekend bookings (Friday to Sunday) are non-refundable and non-reschedulable once confirmed. This also applies to weekday bookings after 5 PM. These policies help us manage our schedule and ensure availability for all clients.

To secure your timeslot, full payment is required in advance, whether it’s for a photoshoot or an event. Without this payment, we cannot confirm your booking.

Is there a host in the studio?

A host usually works at the studio throughout your booking.

Can I bring my own photographer?

Yes, because we do not provide an in-house photographer. Therefore, we encourage you to bring your own photographer to our studio. We welcome collaborations with external professionals and are open to working with your preferred photographer.

Do you offer special rates for long-term or regular bookings?

If you'd like to book the space on a regular occasion or a longer term basis then please contact us directly to discuss special rates.

EVENT QUESTIONS

What kind of events can I attend at Silk Huis?

We host everything from books clubs to clothing swaps, screening parties, and much more! You can see all of our upcoming events here.

Can I cancel my event ticket?

All tickets are non-refundable. However, we're happy to support you by allowing you to assign your ticket if we're informed 24 hours in advance (based on availability). Bear in mind it's your responsibility to find a new participant to replace you.

I want to host a workshop or an event. How do I book the studio?

Our studio is available to host workshops, events and other gatherings. Please contact us for more information about renting the space for non-photography-related purposes. Send us an email at hi@silkhuis.com for a detailed offer. Bear in mind our hourly rate is 70EUR
